Daybook entry April 20, 2009

My Daybook for April 20, 2009

***

Outside My Window ...
It's raining hard, which is wonderful for sleeping, but not so great for getting things done. I'm glad I didn't have errands planned for today!

***

I am listening to...
Will and Katie are scrambling to finish their "Four Stars." That's our family shorthand for getting ready for the day: breakfast, make your bed, brush your teeth and get dressed. When they were little, they each had a chart with those four tasks pictured, and to show that they had completed that task, they put a big star magnet over the picture.

***

I am thinking...
Why is it that I have more like "27 Stars" to earn before I'm ready to face the day?

***

To be fit and happy...
You know when you go to the doctor and they ask if you've had any unexplained weight loss? I always snort at that question, but I've lost seven pounds in the last week and I have no clue how or why. I've even been drinking a little Coke! (Don't tell Scott! Since my whole kidney stone adventure, he's been even more hyper about "Drink Your Water!" I called him Captain Hydration in my superhero voice. He wasn't amused.) My next door neighbor asked if I wanted to start going up to the clubhouse to workout with her, and we start today. I am really excited about that!

***

I am thankful for ...
A husband who will burn a whole Saturday putting together a loft bed for his son.
A son who will spend the same Saturday chattering excitedly about the same bed.
A daughter who now considers the area under the loft bed her personal stage.

***

From the kitchen ...
I have two avocados that are perfectly ripe and ready to make guacamole. I don't have any ground beef to make tacos to go with the guacamole...but I think I'll make chicken tacos and surprise everybody!

***

I am wearing ...
slouchy, disreputable workout clothes. Like, so disreputable that I'm going to have to change before I go to the clubhouse with Kim.

***
I am creating ...
Once I get my scraproom set back up, I have a couple of pages niggling around in my brain. I still haven't found one envelope of Christmas pictures that I am positive I ordered.

***

Towards a real education ...
We are plugging along in everyone's curriculum. We will be finishing just a skosh behind the area public schools, but I am hopeful that will help me keep doing a little school through the summer without anybody (read: Will) really noticing. I am really starting to look forward to ordering Exploring Countries and Cultures. It is so fun to have new curriculum to peruse!

***

Bringing beauty to my home ...
There's a LOT changing around here! We recently got some new furniture and I'm super-motivated to streamline the rest of the house. I am a packrat, and an unorganized one at that, so decluttering is a foreign concept to me. Wish me luck.

***

I am reading ...
nothing at the moment. Any recommendations for me?

***

I am hoping ...
that Will and I can get the Tumor (our 75-pound LoveSac) up two flights of stairs before Scott gets home.

***

Around the house ...
Just a lot of furniture-moving and clutter-tossing.

***

One of my favorite things ...
When Will or Katie *gets* something I'm trying to teach and their face lights up. Or--even better--when they're excited enough about what they're learning to talk about it with Scott over dinner.

***

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:
I would really like to get rid of some of the excess that's taking over the schoolroom. If I can get that done by the end of the week, I'll feel like it was a very productive week.

***

A Picture I am sharing:

Will on some crazy bungee jump thing at our church's Easter Egg hunt. He waited in line for close to an hour, but it was completely worth it to him, and he's still talking about it.

Be sure to visit Peggy for links to more daybooks.

(And, if you're so inclined, come back here tomorrow to see Will's new bed.)

I read The Wednesday Letters. Not a real long book, nothing earth shattering, but a good read. It was really sweet, but surprised me as well.

Hi Wendy!!
I've been enjoying all your news.
I can't even guess how y'all kept up with all the parts to Will's bed.
The kids are really growing. They are so cute.
