Still catching up

I haven't been around much in the last couple of weeks. My mom & dad came to visit and while they were here, we took a mini-vacation down to Williamsburg. Will kept asking me, "How long 'til we go to my town?" And then Katie got mad and demanded that we take a trip to Katiesburg. I'm not even kidding. Oh, and before I share pictures, I should probably warn you that I cut all my hair off. I wanted it to look like Cathy Zielske's, which it kind of maybe does a little--on a good day. Katie hated it instantly and ordered me to "Brush it back long. Now."

Here's William in Colonial Williamsburg, outside the Post Office. I wish I had zoomed in more on this, but I just looked up and saw him pretending to shoot a bird over the fence and, well, this is what I got.
My dad got a much better shot of this on his camera, but if you look closely, you can see a Colonial-type guy playing his violin at Ye Olde Open Air Food Courte. Katie immediately jumped up and started dancing. So he kept playing and she kept dancing. After a good long while, he stopped and bowed to her and she bowed back. He told my dad that she'd made his day. See, she can be a sweetheart.
We got to ride on this nifty thing, too. I'm drawing a blank on what it was called. Not a coach, because it wasn't enclosed. Not a wagon, because it was a sign of great wealth, and even then, I guess wagons were more "grocery-getters." Sorry, I just cannot think of the word.

CARRIAGE. Oh, yeah, that's a real hard word. How embarrassing to be me right now. It's after midnight; just go ahead and lower your expectations.

Will & Katie's favorite part of the whole adventure, hands down, was the Hampton Inn. Will described it all to Scott in breathless detail: "And our room, it had a tv, and a microwave, and we made popcorn, and there was a pool inside that you could swim in, and you use a card to unlock your door, and you don't have to make your bed, and they make you breakfast too! But for lunch and dinner, you have to go find it somewhere else, and we were room 334, and you can get snacks in this little room, and I got to push the elevator buttons and..."

"Well, did you learn a lot about colonial times?"

"Um, yeah, I guess, but the Hampton Inn, Daddy, you just wouldn't believe it, they have cereal and donuts and oatmeal..."

Looks like you guys had a wonderful time. I hope that you are enjoying living there. I think that I need to see more pictures of your hair. I can't really see it! Do you like it?
The kids are so big.
