I thought we were having a good morning

Katie woke up this morning happy. (This happens about two mornings out of seven, so it is always cause for celebration.) She was laughing and hugging us and telling us happy things. She happily ate a great big breakfast of pancakes and scrambled eggs. Happy, happy, happy.

I just walked past her room and she was in front of her window, looking out at the street, singing this made-up song in the forlorn style of a brokenhearted Disney Princess:

"Help me; oh, who will help me?
I must find a new fam..i...lyyyyyyyyyyy"

She has asked a couple of times now for us to donate her to her friends' families when things around here aren't being done to her liking. Her friend Ashley is moving to Las Vegas next week and I need to remember to tell her mom to double-check for stow-aways before they get too far down the road, because Katie has told me repeatedly that she wants to ride to D.C. in Ashley's car.

Your daughter sounds like quite the character! I'm looking forward to meeting her someday.

Amy, Katie has come with us to Oregon the last two times we've been able to come! She was, oh, about 8 months old when we were there for your baby shower with John, and she had just turned two when we came for Christmas in 2004. It's been waaaay too long since we've been home, but you have met her!!

I know I've met her (I thought of that when I wrote it), but I haven't really met Katie the person. I don't think you really can get to know someone until they are at least three. Know what I mean?
