A year ago I went to Austin, ostensibly to scrapbook with my sister. And I definitely did that, but she also treated me to a tour of Austin's culinary delights. There was a little barbecue joint, in particular that I still cannot think of without drooling a little. After the first bite, I told Susan, "I want to eat here every day I'm here!!!!" And I said it with four exclamation points. Good little hostess that she is, that's exactly what we did. Well, one meal, my sweet niece Bryn was just picking at her mac 'n' cheese.

"What's the matter, honey?" Susan asked.

"It's kind of ew." Bryn said quietly. (Susan tasted it and agreed. Apparently it had a little bit of raw flour taste to it.)

That instantly became the way to describe something that doesn't live up to your expectations. It cracks me up. "It's kind of ew." Not entirely ew--that would be harsh; some of it is okay, but something in there is not quite right. It's kind of ew.

Just thought you would all like to know the back-story, as I will inevitably need to use that phrase at some point on this blog. And here's a picture of Bryn for you to enjoy. She's not at all ew.

What a surprise to click on and see my darling quoted! Glad that she's impacted the family lexicon in her few short years. :) Took me much longer...i.e., "Sorry, that wasn't even English."

Love you!

FYI: J&Js is under new management. Haven't had their migas in a while (go figure), but their BBQ is a little hit or miss now. But don't panic...we'll work it out.

Of course I have to ask... which barbeque place? Of course, they're *all* good in Texas. ;)
