A Proper Cup of Coffee

July 2
Today Scott went until 10:30 a.m. before he got his first cup of coffee. It wasn't pretty. Our plan was to be at the house at 8:00, drop me off to wait for the telephone guy and let Scott go get coffee and breakfast fare. Instead, the homeowner was here installing ceiling fans and waiting for the garage door opener guy. Well, of course we were giddy to see how the house had turned out, and soon we were getting a thorough rundown from the owner on how everything works. You wouldn't believe how high-tech this place is. The fridge has an alarm that sounds when somebody leaves the door open too long, an alarm that sounds when somebody's dinking around with the in-door water & ice dispenser, an alarm that sounds when somebody's eating at an unauthorized time. And the dishwasher; the dishwasher is so high-falutin' that I actually had to read the instruction book.

When Scott got a chance to ask about coffee, I was very amused by the way the conversation ran. I didn't say anything, of course, but what I was thinking is in parentheses.

Scott: Oh, hey, is there a Starbucks nearby? (Wow, that was pretty casual for a guy who's about to come out of his skin.)

David: No, not really...about three or four miles. (Pffft. At 10:30, I bet Scott would drive to Maryland for some Starbucks.)

Scott, eagerly: How do you get there?

David: Well if it doesn't have to be Starbucks (It does.) there's a Wawa gas station just up the road. (Oh, that's not gonna fly.) They have really good flavored coffees (no, no, not gonna fly.) like hazelnut (hmm, maybe. That's kinda Oregon-y) [Scott makes almost imperceptible disgusted face] (OK, so that's a no on the Wawa hazelnut.)

David, continuing: I don't think they have iced coffee, though, so if you want flavored, iced coffee... (Dude. Where. Is. The. Starbucks.)

Scott: Yeah, so the Starbucks is south of here?

Hahahahahaha!

But guess what was right next to the Starbuck's? Panera Bread Co.!

I really started laughing when I got to the flavored coffee part -- that is a total no-go around here and you can actually see Mike's nose turn up when it is mentioned.

I love Panera. Yum! Can't wait to come visit.
